Hair Partings

Hair partings are the focal point of a hairstyle. They should be neat and clean for a good appearance. If you are not careful on how to use a parting, it can enhance or mar the total look.
A hairstylist must always work according to the natural parting or a precise centre parting and natural hair stream for required flexibility, which is quite important in changing and maintaining a style. If you suggest to your client to change his parting, ask him to gradually shift the parting after every hair wash so that his hair gets adjusted over time. Sometimes, when styling according to the facial contour and texture, it is difficult to incorporate the natural parting in the style, it is advisable to keep changing the parting.
Finding the Natural Parting
Comb freshly shampooed hair back and place the right palm on the crown, pushing the hair forward slightly. The hair will separate at the natural part.

Types of Hair Partings

Partings must suit the facial contour and hide the facial flaws like imperfect features and defective growth pattern. Partings normally taken are:

The Punk Hair Style

One of the major outer signs that say a person is "punk" is the punk hair style, the only hair style that has lasted over twenty years...
Over the past few seasons, punk Shape has transcended from campy to cool. One example of this is the media interest in Kelly Osbourne's eccentric style. The same people who once mocked her for her Shape sense are now clinging onto her bootstraps for advice about how to avoid a Shape faux pas.
The punk hair style has basically stayed the same, with a few changes here and there to fit the times (70's punk, 80's punk, 90's punk and so on).

Steps for Punk Hair Style

  1. Put the hair in three ponytails, starting at the middle of the crown and going to the middle of the back.
  2. Wrap one Feather wrap piece around each one of the ponytails. Use the wrap like you would a ponytail holder, twisting it around the ponytail until it is secure. On the second wrap bring your ponytail through halfway so that you own ends blend with the Feather wrap piece. Secure with bobby pins if necessary.
  3. Style the hair forward and spray to create more volume.

Hair Perm - Home Perm Hair Style

Making straight hair curly is not a new hair style idea. Women in ancient Egypt coated their hair in mud, wound it around wooden rods and then used the heat from the sun to create the curls. Waves that won't wash out are a more recent innovation. Modern perms were pioneered by A F Willat, who invented the "cold permanent wave" technique in 1934. Since then, improved formulations and ever more sophisticated techniques have made perm the most versatile option in hair style.

How Hair Perm works

  • Perm works by breaking down inner structures in your hair and reforming them around a curler to give a new shape. Hair should be washed prior to perming as this causes the scales on the cuticles to rise gently, allowing the perming lotion to enter the hair shaft more quickly. The perming lotion alters the Kertin and breaks down the sulphur bonds that link the fibre like cells together in the inner layers of each hair. When these fibres have become loose, they can be formed into a new shape, when the hair is stretched over a curler or a perming rod.
  • Once the curlers or rods are in place, more lotion is applied and the perm is left to develop to fix the new shape. The development time can vary according to the condition and texture of the hair. When the development is complete, the changed links in the hair are re-formed into their new shape by the application of a second chemical known as the neutralizer. The neutralizer contains an oxidizing agent that is effectively responsible for closing up the broken links and producing the wave or curl permanently.

Dry hair looks like unwashed straw. It grows thicker nearer the scalp and thins out towards the ends, thus causing split ends. This hair is caused by heat and the elements, so the first step is prevention: Avoid using overly hot dryers and heat-styling implements and wear a hat or scarf if you're going to be exposed to sun or wind for long periods (at the beach or skiing, for instance).
